The Idaho Piggy Bank Beauty Contest is hosted each year by the Idaho Financial Literacy Coalition and sponsored by several of its member organizations.

The contest allows Idaho’s 3rd through 6th grade students to create and/or decorate a piggy bank using virtually any materials and their own ingenuity, so long as the bank can hold money and does not measure more than 12 inches in any dimension.

Each student may enter their piggy bank in just one category of their choice, from the following:

Funniest Piggy Bank
Prettiest Piggy Bank
Most Creative Piggy Bank
Celebrity Look Alike

Winners are chosen by the membership of the IFLC at its March annual business meeting. Winners, their parent(s) and their teacher are then invited to the annual proclamation signing at the governor’s office (late March or early April) to designate April as Financial Literacy Month in Idaho.

At the proclamation signing, contest winners from each of the contest categories receive a $75 scholarship to start their very own Idaho College Savings account, provided by IDeal.

Piggy Bank Beauty Contest entries may measure no more than 12” in width, length or height, and they must be able to hold money (coins and bills). Otherwise, the child’s imagination is the limit.

Please do NOT write the child’s name on any conspicuous surface, so that judging may be fair and unbiased.

Judged categories include:

Funniest Piggy Bank
Prettiest Piggy Bank
Most Creative Piggy Bank
Celebrity Look Alike Theme

Participation is free, though students are restricted to one entry each. Students are also expected to be the main builders/creators of their piggy bank (which does not need to be in the form of a pig), with minimal assistance from parents, teachers or other adults.

Teachers and Parents! See the “Creating Your Pig” page for ideas about materials to use.

There will be four categories in which awards of a $75 Scholarship to start an Idaho College Savings account, provided by IDeal to the winning students. The four winning students will also be invited, along with their parent(s) and their teacher, to a ceremony at the Idaho Statehouse for the governor’s signing of a proclamation making April Financial Literacy Month in Idaho.

Finalist from each drop location will be judged by the Idaho Financial Literacy Coalition membership at their annual business meeting in March.
